About This Program

In this collection of tender, searching films, we are invited into spaces where identity unfolds through journeys — across borders, between generations, through friendships and fragile silences. Crossings and Kinships Program brings together voices that echo across distance, bodies that carry memory, and lives shaped by migration, resilience, and transformation. Here, kinship takes many forms: chosen, inherited, imagined. Whether through music, voice notes, dance, or shared histories, each story draws a delicate map of belonging — not fixed, but always in motion. These are portraits of connection and becoming, glowing with the quiet power of lives lived between worlds.

diario de verano is an exploration of neighborhood flora in Tkaronto, focusing on Kensington Market, Parkdale and Wallace – Emmerson, areas we live and move through. Experimentation with abstract movement and the physical, compositional properties of foraged materials, strengthened our community/kinship to the land and each other. Artistic practices were explored and shared through gathering rituals, stop motion animation and phytograms, creating complex layers of ourselves intertwined through our latinx identities in this short film.

This is a film about my father, who immigrated to Montreal from Chile in the early 1970s after a hard-scrabble life on the streets of Santiago as a youth. Like my mother, who immigrated from Argentina around that time, his mobile life was characterised by neither chain migration nor lasting social ties with members of his ethnic group. His story is also one about class, politics, and complicated histories of migration and exile.
